Default Buddha is a Bellhop

This is a funny little song from the Jack Kerouac Festival, by a teacher from Naropa University named Steven Taylor. (There are a couple of war images in the middle which aren't funny.)

Quote:
Buddha is a Bellhop in a Hollywood Hotel, the workers in the kitchen think he's Jesus.

I don't know if the phrase ‘ Buddha is a bellhop' is meant to be derogatory. ( although it certainly sounds so ) But there seems to be many, many parallels between the sayings attributed to Buddha and those attributed to Christ. Nothing I've read thus far, has convinced me that one ( Jesus or Buddha ) was superior to the other ( in terms of his mystical insights ). There are in fact many parallels between early Christianity, and far more ancient religions, as Gnosticism has also attested. A good book on this subject is Tom's Harpur's ‘ The Pagan Christ'

I personally subscribe to precepts which speak of the ‘ essential unity of all the great religions'. I don't know who said this originally, but I love this analogy :

‘ All the world's religions ( and all the world's sciences too - once science embraces its own deep-seated spirituality ) can be likened to the lines of longitude on the globe, appearing at first to wildly diverge, yet inevitably intersecting at the opposite pole.'

Most of the faculty and students from this school are practicing Buddhists. I think the idea of the song is a celebration of the fact that we are all One, in other words, we are all the Buddha as Taylor implies.

Well I like those sentiments a lot , and that's how I think also, for the record, I would describe myself as a ' panentheist sans/without dogma' . Another way I might describe myself is ' deeply spiritual but not religious' ( if that makes any sense )...I personally see no incompatibility between panentheism and an ' open minded/ free thinking' theism, although most evangelical theists do not agree...

...As it happens , I had an out of body experience, and also a very powerful mystic experience which actually relates to the name I'm using here...I've had about six screws, a metal plate inserted, bone graft, lost an eye, crushed L1 vertebrae yadda yadda....Yet I'm still walking, still talking...One of the surgeons said that was the most damage to a spine they ever saw without paralysis , he called it a ' miracle'...It's been my experience that if you happen to survive those close brushes with death, they can be very Spiritually Enlightening...But I digress

***

One thing I should explain is that I'm running on a cheap motherboard, with a shoddy ' SIS' chipset. Everytime I drop a soundcard in, Windows starts to messes up BigTIme...I'm too lazy to put in a new motherboard so I'm running without sound.

In other words, I CANNOT listen to the SONG, nor the audio on your videos either. So I'm sorely disadvantaged here

Sorry for the misunderstanding...But like I said, I REALLY like your sentiments/ explaination ....they DO seem closely aligned with mine...from what little I know about your spiritual views that is...
